March 1998 marked the release of "The Pink and The Black: a goth and glam collection," the CD that really kicked things off for indie record label Delinquent Records. This double CD was unlike any other release - combining the most extreme genres of bands. The dichotomy of the styles was very controversial at that time and many critics refused to acknowledge it's potential before it's release. Regardless, The Pink and The Black CD appealed to a wide variety of underground aficionado's of indie music!
Both glam and goth bands have been extremely stereotyped by the mainstream music industry as unseasoned musicians worried more about their images than their musical abilities. To add insult to injury, unappreciative music lovers were only able to distinguish the two styles of bands by the colors of their clothes and lipstick!
Glam bands and Goth bands possess elements of devotion and dedication to who they are because of their music; this is a quality I have yet to find any other genre of music. Attending the release parties were simply amazing! Each of the 4 shows was an incredible experience. It was more than just a crowd divided into the two camps of the bubblegum pink and the brooding black. Goth bands broke their stereotype images, behaved foolishly and pogo-ed to Glam diddys and anthems! Glam bands felt the solitude expressed in Goth songs and swayed to their charismatic melodies.
So many pictures were taken of the bands posed arm-in-arm and toasting cheers, it was often hard to correctly label which band was which!! I thought the way the bands came together in unity and support for each other was the most successful aspect of The Pink and The Black.
